online pet sales awareness week

Our Online Pet Sales Awareness Week will run the second week of April each year.

2023 awareness week took place on the 10th April to 16th April

We are launching Online Pet Sales Awareness Week to highlight the importance of the regulation of animal sales online and to demonstrate why current legislation is both inefficient and ineffective and the impact current guidelines have on overall animal welfare.

If we can get the online animal sales industry right, the rest will follow.

Hope Rescue - April 2023

We are raising awareness to the dangers of buying a pet online. Most people know the tragic story of Reggie, it is one we all hope to never go through.

Sadly this is not the case, we still have people contacting us asking for our help. April is Prevention of cruelty to Animals Month, selling animals online needs to be regulated to stop the heartbreak and pain most families and animals endure.

The 2023 awareness week consisted of 7 days of information regarding the sales of animals online, awareness of illegal breeding and a visit to Hope rescue in Wales. The JFR team chaired a meeting with key stakeholders including main selling sites, police, RSPCA, Hope rescue and other campaign groups to discuss the important issue of unregulated online sales and the kept animals bill. JFR shared with the selling sites some possible quick wins to improve safety on their platforms.
